• TRIANGLE: Write about three things that stood out to you
(1) “Car clubs, now working successfully in many UK cities, can make significant difference by providing a pool of vehicles that members can use when they need to travel by car. BioRegional’s study at BedZED shows that switching from owning a petrol car to using a car club with electric vehicles is the single most effective method of reducing one’s personal carbon emissions”(Clarke). I find some information about BedZED it shows if residents use the electric pool cars, the parking and battery charging is free.
(2) “Overall, transport is such a politically and economically significant issue that for sustainable transport to succeed, it needs top-level political support and long-term commitment”(Clarke). I think sometimes the political support will course the negative impact on urban planning. For example, the Odd-even rationing or system.
(3) “Movement routes are shared by cars, buses(or trams), cyclists and pedestrians and go through the centre rather than around it as well as through residential neighbourhoods”(Clarke). It made me confused for some reason it not safe.
• SQUARE: Write about one thing that made sense to you.
Sustainable transport can be defined in a number of ways. First, it should’ meet the needs of present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. More immediately, it should promote human health, both mental and physical, and provide the opportunity for social interaction and enriching urban experiences.
• CIRCLE: What do you have a question about?
The city belongs to mayor or citizens? I think a good design need enough research and the most important is what people want.
