1.Urban Forests = Cleaner, Cooler Air
Urban forests can help to clean the air and improving air quality. Urban forests also can provide shade for people. In some places like marketplace or plaza they use outdoor water spray cooling system, waste water and energy but the benefits of urban forests are many.
2. Designing for Active Living
“Improving access to outdoor activities not only provides physical and mental health benefits for the residents of these communities but also creates environmental and economic value. More walking and biking means fewer car trips and less carbon dioxide added to the atmosphere.”(Key Facts) In my personal experience, I lived for two years in the United States it’s difficult to find corner store in some communities. If I want to buy some small stuffs like AA battery, coke, laundry detergent etc, I need to drive to Walmart or other markets. I think that’s the reason why am I become so lazy also waste gasoline. Beyond this video I think corner store could connect with local food and farmer market, supply fresh food for residents, meet with resident’s daily need, let them WALK OUT not DRIVE OUT. In my opinion people buy a lot of food from Walmart like once a week, buy a lot eat a lot…Vicious circle…
3. The Edible City
This idea is awesome. Grow vegetables on the roof it will provide shade and remove heat from the air through evapotranspiration. Save energy and provide food. I think this video could connect with the second one “Designing for Active Living”.
