• TRIANGLE: Write about three things that stood out to you.
1. As a result of various influences the air temperature in an urban area, for example, can be as much as 8C higher than in the surrounding countryside, while the relative humidity can be 2-10 per cent lower. (Urban heat island) EXAMPLE: Frederick Law Olmsted, Central Park in New York City
2. Especially important in hot climate areas. Radiation striking an emissivity opaque surface may be absorbed or reflected. Example: Cyclades, Greek island.
3. Shade is equally important in the warm-wet zones, but in this case it must be combined with protection from the frequent and often intensive rains while simultaneously allowing free passage for air movement. Example Beijing considers 'wind tunnels' design for the city to combat smog………
• SQUARE: Write about one thing that made sense to you.
I think good design should focus on long-term goal especially for landscape design. Olmsted’s Central Park in New York City is a good example. Review Kristen’s lecture, she mentioned a project in Hawaii, a building full of air conditioners, years later wasted a lot of energy. The best thing is it still has room to redesign it. Empire State Building still could redesign the HAVC and it works.
• CIRCLE: What do you have a question about?
There are 35 megacities in the world. Stand in Beijing make me feels like in a concrete jungle. For these big cities how to redesign the city plan.
